How we design mudroom storage
Buffalo winters come in through the back door. A good drop zone stops them there: open lockers so wet gear can dry, a bench to sit on, boot trays to catch slush, and hooks at kid height.
Southtowns families in Orchard Park and Hamburg, who saw about 80 inches of snow in the November 2022 storm, often pair a mudroom with garage storage for shovels, salt and the snowblower.
What’s included
- Open lockers for airflow
- Bench seating with boot cubbies
- Hooks at adult and kid heights
- Top cubbies for hats, gloves and scarves
- Durable, wipeable finishes

What’s the best setup for heavy lake-effect snow?+
A drop zone at your most-used door with open lockers, a bench, boot trays and lots of hooks. Avoid closed doors on wet-gear lockers so things can dry.
Can lockers fit in a small entryway?+
Yes. Even a 4-foot wall fits two slim lockers and a bench.
Can you add a charging station?+
Yes. We can plan a cubby with a cutout for a power strip so phones and tablets charge out of the way.
